Zion Staples, a 10-year-old boy from Rock Island, Illinois, was found dead in a garbage can in the garage of his family's home on July 26, 2023. However, the circumstances surrounding his death are more complex and date back further. According to the Rock Island County Coroner, Brian Gustafson, Zion died from a gunshot wound to the head, but the body had been decomposing for approximately eight months, indicating that he likely died around December 21, 2022.
