In the autumn of 2013, a young man's life was abruptly cut short on a street in Richmond, Virginia. Jeremy J. Meredith, a 21-year-old male, was shot and killed on the evening of Sunday, November 3rd. The incident occurred in the 2400 block of Yorktown Avenue, a detail that would become central to the ensuing investigation. That night, the sound of nine to ten gunshots fired in quick succession shattered the neighborhood's peace.
Police, who were already nearby on an unrelated call next to a food mart, responded within moments to reports of disorderly conduct and multiple shots fired.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Jeremy Meredith in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to VCU Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died at the hospital. As the investigation began, witnesses reported seeing police surround a house on Yorktown Avenue, not far from the scene of the shooting.
