In the winter of 2013, a promising life was tragically cut short in Roanoke, Virginia. Tratavious Davon Oliver McDuffie, an 18-year-old Black male affectionately known as 'Trey,' died on December 4, 2013. On that Wednesday afternoon, emergency services responded to a call in the 1600 block of Queen Ann Drive in southeast Roanoke, where they found McDuffie with a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
