On a late Thursday evening in Hampton, Virginia, the life of 17-year-old Adonus Deondre Turner was tragically cut short. On June 19, 2014, at approximately 10:49 p.m., a call was made to emergency services reporting a shooting in the 800 block of Downing Street. When police arrived, they found Adonus inside his home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The events of that night unfolded moments after the doorbell rang.
Turner went to answer the front door, and upon opening it, he was shot by an unknown assailant or assailants. Inside the residence at the time were other family members, including his stepfather, who heard the front door open followed by the sound of several gunshots. He discovered Turner wounded at the front door.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and transported the young man to a local hospital. Initially, he was reported to be in stable condition. However, his condition deteriorated, and in the early hours of June 20, 2014, at 1:20 a.m., Adonus Deondre Turner succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators do not believe this was a random act of violence. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, with authorities exploring possible connections to a shooting incident involving a close friend of Turner's the day before, as well as a shooting that had occurred at a local carnival a year prior. To date, the suspect or suspects in the shooting death of Adonus Deondre Turner have not been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the ongoing homicide investigation. The case remains an active cold case with the Hampton Police Division.
