In the late afternoon of August 10, 2014, the sound of several gunshots shattered the quiet of a Chesapeake, Virginia neighborhood. When residents in the 1600 block of Weber Avenue in the Indian River section of the city looked outside, they were met with a tragic scene. A young man, 27-year-old Andrew Dominguez, was lying on the ground outside an apartment building, having been shot. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 4:15 p.m., but it was too late.
Andrew Dominguez was pronounced deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Witnesses at the scene described seeing three young males fleeing the area immediately after the gunshots rang out. They were last seen running through the nearby Crosswinds Apartment complex, heading in the direction of Providence Road. The suspects were described as young black males, believed to be in their late teens. Two were described as being tall and thin, with the third being shorter in stature. Despite these descriptions, no arrests have ever been made in the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
The investigation into the homicide of Andrew Dominguez remains open and is now considered a cold case. The Chesapeake Police Department continues to seek information from the public that could lead to a break in the case and bring closure to his family. A reward of up to $1,500 has been offered for information that leads to an arrest. Years later, the senseless act of violence that cut short the life of Andrew Dominguez remains a painful and unresolved chapter for the Chesapeake community.
