In the quiet neighborhood of Peaceful Village in Chesapeake, Virginia, a heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded on the morning of February 6, 2025, claiming the life of 5-year-old Ermias King. The young African American boy, along with his twin sister, Emani King, and their 14-year-old sister, Kanaurie King, fell victim to a devastating act of violence perpetrated by their own mother.
The series of events began to unravel when Chesapeake police were dispatched to the family's home on Welcome
Road for a welfare check shortly before 7:00 a.m. Upon their arrival, they encountered a barricaded situation with the children's mother, 34-year-old Cymone King-Roberson, who was armed. Crisis negotiators were called to the scene in an attempt to de-escalate the situation peacefully. However, after more than an hour of negotiations, their efforts proved unsuccessful.
Faced with the grim possibility of casualties within the home, the SWAT team made the decision to force entry. Inside, they made a harrowing discovery. The lifeless bodies of Ermias, Emani, and Kanaurie were found, along with their mother, who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators concluded that King-Roberson had shot and killed her three children before taking her own life in a tragic murder-suicide.
