In the quiet community of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, the life of 66-year-old Brian Edward Foy Sr. came to a tragic end on May 2, 2015. He was found shot to death in his home in what would unravel as a murder plot involving his former son-in-law. The subsequent investigation would lead authorities across state lines and result in the arrests of three individuals connected to his death.
Brian Edward Foy Sr., a man who had served his country as a Marine in the Vietnam War, was
remembered for his love of family and his passion for racing cars and boats. His peaceful life by the lake was shattered in an act of violence that quickly pointed to his ex-son-in-law, Daniel Arnot. Within a day of the discovery of Foy's body, investigators had tracked Arnot to Toccoa, Georgia, where he was apprehended.
Further investigation revealed that Arnot did not act alone. Two accomplices, Michael Anthony Edwards and Carrie Eugenna Ramey, were also taken into custody in Georgia. The trio was extradited to Virginia to face charges related to the death of Brian Foy. The motive, as described by authorities, appeared to be linked to a series of burglaries, with items stolen from Foy's home reportedly traded for illegal drugs.
In January 2016, the legal proceedings came to a close for the main perpetrator. Daniel Arnot, then 31, entered into a plea agreement, pleading guilty to the first-degree murder of his former father-in-law. As a result, he was sentenced to serve 50 years in prison. The accomplices also faced justice for their roles in the crime. Carrie Eujenna Ramey, who was 25 at the time, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary, vehicle larceny, and being an accessory in Foy's murder. Michael Anthony Edwards, also 25, pleaded guilty to burglary and being an accessory to murder after the fact. According to reports, Ramey was in the getaway car while Arnot committed the murder. While it was reported that Ramey could face a lengthy prison sentence, the specific details of her and Edwards' final sentences were not widely publicized.
