In the early morning hours of May 6, 2023, a dispute that began inside a 7-Eleven convenience store in Hampton, Virginia, tragically ended in the parking lot with the shooting deaths of 25-year-old Keshawn Hawkins and another 25-year-old man, Jonathan Johnson Jr. Keshawn Hawkins was a Black male. The initial investigation by the Hampton Police Department indicates that a verbal altercation between several individuals inside the store escalated and moved outside.
Once in the parking lot,
individuals from both groups involved in the dispute brandished firearms. An exchange of gunfire followed, and in the aftermath, both Hawkins and Johnson were found with gunshot wounds. Emergency services were called to the scene in the 500 block of Aberdeen Road at approximately 3:16 a.m., but neither man could be saved, and both were pronounced dead at the location.
In the days following the double homicide, the Hampton Police Department released surveillance photos of three individuals they identified as suspects. Authorities sought help from the public to identify the people in the photographs. Despite the release of these images and the ongoing investigation, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made in connection with the deaths of Keshawn Hawkins and Jonathan Johnson Jr. The case remains under investigation.
