On a summer evening in Hampton, Virginia, the life of 31-year-old Brandon Ward of Norfolk was tragically cut short. On July 21, 2023, just after 6:30 p.m., police responded to a call of a shooting in the first block of Towne Center Way. Upon arrival, they discovered Ward inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide led authorities to a suspect
over a month later. On August 25, 2023, Tyreke Jwan Solomon was arrested in connection with Ward's death. Solomon was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a firearm in public.
Born in Newport News, Virginia, on July 1, 1992, Brandon Ward grew up in Hampton and was a 2010 graduate of Bethel High School. He was a valued employee at General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk, where he worked as a safety inspector. Remembered for his charming personality and glowing smile, he was a devoted father, fiancé, son, and brother. His obituary lovingly states that his children were his pride and joy.
