In the early morning hours of December 9, 2023, a tragedy unfolded at an Econo Lodge on North Military Highway in Norfolk, Virginia, that claimed the life of 52-year-old Charles F. Moore. Responding to a report of a gunshot victim at approximately 5:20 a.m., police officers arrived to find Moore suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Charles Moore, a man known to
many as 'Tommie Brown,' quickly became a homicide case. For weeks, detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting inside one of the motel rooms. The community was left with questions and a sense of loss for a man described as a beloved husband, father, and dear friend with a legacy of love and laughter.
In the weeks that followed, the Norfolk Police Department continued their investigation, which ultimately led to a significant development in the case. On January 25, 2024, authorities arrested 35-year-old Taikisha C. Swift, a resident of Norfolk. She was taken into custody in the 800 block of W 38th Street by members of the Norfolk Police Department. Swift has been charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. She is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
