On the evening of April 23, 2023, a young Black / African American man named Vernon L. Scott III, aged 21, was fatally shot in Norfolk, Virginia. The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. in the 900 block of Bagnall Road, located in the Calvert Square area. When Norfolk Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Scott suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
