In the early evening of June 20, 2024, the sound of gunfire disrupted the calm in a Norfolk, Virginia neighborhood, setting in motion a chain of events that would ultimately claim the life of 29-year-old Maurice Stowe. Around 4:45 p.m., Norfolk Police officers in the vicinity of the 900 block of Bagnall Road heard the shots and quickly discovered a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.
He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released.
The investigation took a grim turn when, moments later, officers found two more victims in the 700 block of Chapel Street. One of the men, 19-year-old Javid K. Williams, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man, Maurice Stowe, had sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital. For five days, Stowe fought for his life, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries on June 25, 2024.
The deaths of Maurice Stowe and Javid K. Williams are being investigated as a double homicide.
