In the winter of 2015, the family of Al-Tariq Tynes began a frantic search for the 26-year-old man after he vanished from Portsmouth, Virginia, on December 10th. For weeks, his loved ones held onto hope for his safe return. This hope, however, turned to grief when his body was discovered in a ditch in neighboring Chesapeake in early January 2016. The discovery confirmed their worst fears: Al-Tariq Tynes had been murdered just two days after his 27th birthday.
