On the evening of January 11, 2016, Harshad Patel, a 55-year-old Indian American man, was working in his Chesterfield, Virginia, convenience store, the Marketplace #21 on Walmsley Boulevard. As he prepared to close for the night, three teenagers entered the store with the intent to rob him. The events that followed would tragically end in Mr. Patel's untimely death.
