On a tragic Valentine's Day in 2019, 53-year-old Dwayne U. Swann, a male resident of Chesterfield, Virginia, was found dead in his home on Drexelbrook Road. An argument outside the residence escalated, leading to Swann being fatally shot. When police arrived, they discovered Swann suffering from a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believed from early on that Swann likely knew his attacker.
The investigation into Swann's death stretched over a year and a half, culminating in the arrests of four individuals. In September 2020, Chesterfield Police apprehended 33-year-old Keith M. Bailey of Richmond and 32-year-old Erika M. McNeil of Chesterfield. Both were charged with murder, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit a felony. The following month, two more suspects, 39-year-old Tramelle L. Jones and 39-year-old William A. Green, both from Henrico, were also taken into custody and faced the same charges.
Court documents from the appeal of William Greene revealed more about the circumstances of that fatal night. It was detailed that McNeil and Bailey had gone to Swann's house to purchase drugs. Evidence presented suggested that Swann was struck in the head as he opened the door, leading to a trail of blood through the house. His uncle, who was in another part of the house, testified to hearing yelling followed by a gunshot. A television was also taken from the home. Following a jury trial, William Greene was convicted of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
