In the quiet evening of November 12, 2020, the life of 25-year-old Eriq D. Coleman, a male resident of Richmond, was tragically cut short in Chesterfield, Virginia. Around 7:40 p.m., Chesterfield County police responded to a report of a shooting in the 9500 block of Cattail Road. Shortly after, a second call came in about a male who had been shot. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Coleman at the scene, having succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the death of Eriq
Coleman quickly progressed. Within days, detectives identified a suspect in the fatal shooting. On November 16, 2020, the Chesterfield County Police Department secured a detention order for a 17-year-old male. The teenage suspect was charged with second-degree murder in connection with Coleman's death.
In a coordinated effort, law enforcement located the 17-year-old suspect at a residence in South Carolina on the same day the charges were filed. He was taken into custody without incident by authorities in South Carolina. Following his arrest, the suspect was held in custody, awaiting extradition back to Virginia to face the charges brought against him in the death of Eriq D. Coleman. The investigation by the Chesterfield County Police Department continued as they sought to bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding the incident.
