On a Saturday afternoon in May of 2024, the quiet of a Chesterfield, Virginia neighborhood was broken by a grim discovery. On May 18th, in the 2500 block of Marina Drive, a call was made to the Chesterfield County Police about an unconscious male. When officers arrived at approximately 2:09 p.m., they found 22-year-old Qadriq J. Scott, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a resident of Richmond, remembered by friends and family for his vibrant personality.
The investigation into the death of the young Black male quickly gained momentum as detectives began to piece together the events that led to his tragic end. It was determined that Scott was acquainted with the individuals who were ultimately identified as the suspects in his killing. The dedicated work of law enforcement led to the identification of three individuals connected to the crime.
Within a day of the discovery, on May 19th, Chesterfield County Police apprehended the first suspect. Christopher T. Rhames, 23 years old and a resident of Marina Drive, was taken into custody in Chesterfield County. He was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Rhames is being held without bond at the Riverside Regional Jail.
The investigation extended beyond the borders of Virginia as law enforcement tracked two other suspects to Monterey, Tennessee. On May 22nd, Zhekour X. Ross, 21, of Richmond, and Amaris M. Hemphill, 29, were apprehended. Ross faces charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Hemphill has been charged with being an accessory after the fact and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Both are currently being held at the Putnam County Jail in Tennessee. The investigation into Scott's death remains ongoing, as authorities continue to seek any additional information from the public.
