On August 23, 2016, 58-year-old Deborah June Ward was found deceased in her home in New Market, Virginia. The Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office investigated her death as a possible murder-suicide. It is believed that a man killed Ward before taking his own life.
Deborah, known to friends and family as Debbie, was a well-known member of her community.
Throughout her life, she held several jobs, including as a delivery person for the Northern Virginia Daily newspaper and at the time of her death, she was an employee of Masonite Door Co. in Stanley. She was born on January 8, 1958, in New Market.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ward. She is survived by her daughter, three sisters, and two grandsons. Following her death, her family held a receiving of friends to honor her memory. In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated.
