Michael A. Raether, a 25-year-old sailor, tragically lost his life on November 5, 2016, in Norfolk, Virginia. Raether, originally from Somerset, Kentucky, had been serving in the Navy for three years and was stationed on the USS George H.W. Bush. On the night of his death, Raether was the victim of an attempted robbery in the 7800 block of Ogden Avenue. During the robbery, he was shot by the assailant and later succumbed to his injuries at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
