In the late hours of February 12, 2024, the life of 42-year-old Edward Kevin Collins, a male resident of Norfolk, Virginia, was tragically cut short. Police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 11 p.m. in the 500 block of East Olney Road. Upon their arrival, they discovered Collins suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was a resident of the 300 block of the same street.
Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the death of Collins led authorities to two suspects about a month later. On March 14, 2024, the investigative efforts culminated in the arrests of 19-year-old Trent A. Turner of Portsmouth and a 17-year-old male whose name has not been publicly released due to his age. Both individuals were taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting.
Following their arrests, both Turner and the juvenile were charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy. Turner is being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail, while the 17-year-old is being detained at the Norfolk Detention Center as they await further legal proceedings. In the wake of this violent event, members of the Young Terrace community gathered for a nighttime walk to honor Collins' memory and to take a stand against gun violence in their neighborhood.
