On a tragic afternoon in Norfolk, Virginia, the life of 35-year-old Jarred T. Davis, a Black male, was cut short in a burst of gunfire. The incident unfolded on August 18, 2022, at the Fenner Gardens Apartments on Fenner Street, a place that would become the scene of a grim triple homicide.
Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 4:30 p.m., Norfolk police officers arrived to a chaotic scene within one of the residences. They discovered five individuals who had been shot.
Jarred T. Davis, along with two other men, 43-year-old Quinton O. Sessoms and 44-year-old Calvin L. Wood, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims, a 40-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
The preliminary investigation into the deadly encounter suggested that the violence was not a random act. Authorities stated that all individuals involved in the shooting were known to one another. The motive, as indicated by early reports, appeared to stem from a dispute related to drugs. This assertion was later echoed by a family member of one of the victims, who mentioned that drugs were being sold out of the apartment where the shooting took place.
In the wake of the violence, the Norfolk Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Despite the severity of the crime that claimed three lives, authorities did not immediately identify any suspects or make any arrests. The investigation into the deaths of Jarred T. Davis, Quinton O. Sessoms, and Calvin L. Wood remains ongoing as police continue to seek information from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
