On a cold evening in Roanoke, Virginia, the life of 28-year-old Michael Lee Nance, a Black male known affectionately as 'Mike,' was cut short. On January 17, 2017, police responded to a call in the 2300 block of Staunton Avenue NW and found Nance inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was still able to speak with officers when they arrived. Paramedics rushed him to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
