In the warmth of a late spring day in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 40-year-old Maurice McGhee Davis was abruptly ended by gunfire. On June 20, 2024, in the Fountain Heights neighborhood, a community member alerted Jefferson County sheriff's deputies, who were in the area serving a warrant, to a person who had been shot.
