On February 25, 2020, 25-year-old Derrick Marks Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama, was fatally shot at the Hunter Ridge Apartments in Irondale. The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m., when officers responded to reports of a shooting at 2900 Hunter Ridge Drive. Upon arrival, they found Marks suffering from a gunshot wound; he was transported to St. Vincent's East Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:13 p.m.
