Omari Houston, aged 28, was shot and killed in Chicago on August 19, 2007. The incident took place near the intersection of West Lake Street and North Halsted Street, during the early morning hours. The circumstances surrounding the homicide involved multiple individuals, including Bryant Buckhanan, who was later charged and convicted of first-degree murder for his role in the shooting.
According to court documents, Omari was in a vehicle with several individuals when the situation escalated. An Infiniti vehicle, driven by an accomplice, approached and stopped near Omari’s car. Witnesses described seeing the shooter—identified later as Buckhanan—lean out of the Infiniti with a gun and open fire, targeting Omari. Multiple eyewitnesses provided testimony that aligned with this sequence of events, describing how Buckhanan fired from the passenger side of the vehicle. The shooting resulted in Omari being fatally wounded, and he was later found unresponsive by police who arrived at the scene shortly after the gunshots were reported.
The investigation that followed involved the identification of the vehicle used in the crime. The Infiniti, which had been issued as a loaner car to Buckhanan from a local dealership, was later discovered abandoned on Interstate 88. Evidence such as fingerprints and DNA linked Buckhanan to the vehicle, supporting the prosecution’s case.
