On a tragic Friday afternoon in Roanoke, Virginia, the life of Bobby Ray Cundiff, a 40-year-old White male, came to a sudden and violent end. On May 13, 2016, police were called to a residence in the 4400 block of Holmes Street NE for a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival at approximately 12:40 p.m., they discovered a scene of immense sorrow and unanswered questions. Inside the home, officers found Mr.
Cundiff and a female acquaintance, 43-year-old Melissa Lynn Cook.
Emergency services were immediately rendered to both individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds. Melissa Lynn Cook was pronounced dead at the scene, her body discovered in the living room area of the residence. Bobby Ray Cundiff was found in the rear of the home and was quickly transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
From the outset of the investigation, law enforcement officials began to piece together the sequence of events that led to the two fatalities. Evidence gathered at the scene pointed towards a domestic-related incident. Investigators recovered a handgun near Ms. Cook's body and another firearm in close proximity to where Mr. Cundiff was found.
