In the summer of 2023, the life of 16-year-old Jacari Haskins, a Black male also known as Jacari Joshmere Reynolds, was cut short by gun violence in Roanoke, Virginia. On the evening of June 25, the teenager was fatally shot, leaving a community in mourning. Haskins, who had just celebrated his birthday the month prior, was described as a source of light to his family and siblings.
In the wake of the shooting, there was an outpouring of grief and a demand for answers from the community.
His family, faced with the sudden and tragic loss, held a funeral service for Jacari on July 7, 2023, at the Temple Of The Way Out in Roanoke, followed by his interment at Williams Memorial Park. Lacking life insurance, his family sought financial support through a GoFundMe campaign to cover the burial expenses for the young man.
As of late 2025, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Jacari Haskins. The investigation into his murder remains ongoing, and suspects have not been publicly identified. The community continues to await a resolution to the case, hoping for justice for the teenager whose life was violently ended.
