In the summer of 2023, the life of 16-year-old Jacari Haskins, a Black male also known as Jacari Joshmere Reynolds, was cut short by gun violence in Roanoke, Virginia. On the evening of June 25, the teenager was fatally shot, leaving a community in mourning. Haskins, who had just celebrated his birthday the month prior, was described as a source of light to his family and siblings.
