In the late summer of 2019, the life of a 38-year-old Black man, Kevin Williams, was tragically cut short in Roanoke, Virginia. The events unfolded in the early morning hours of August 11, around 12:45 a.m., in the 300 block of 9th Street SW. Responding to a report of a shooting, Roanoke Police officers discovered Williams with a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services transported him to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of his serious injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Kevin Williams succumbed to his injuries four days later, on August 15, 2019. His death prompted the Roanoke Police Department to launch a homicide investigation into the shooting.
