Jiansheng Chen, a 60-year-old grandfather and Chinese immigrant, was tragically killed on the night of January 26, 2017, in Chesapeake, Virginia. Chen, who spoke little English, was playing the augmented reality mobile game Pokémon Go in his minivan at the River Walk community clubhouse's parking lot when he was confronted by a security guard, Johnathan Cromwell. Cromwell, employed by Citywide Protection Services, fired ten shots at Chen, five of which struck him, resulting in his death.
