In a quiet Chesapeake, Virginia neighborhood on August 1, 2025, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal encounter, leaving 61-year-old John McCarthy dead from a gunshot wound. The incident, which unfolded at a residence on Deerfield Crescent, involved an altercation between McCarthy and his adult stepson. When Chesapeake police officers arrived at the home around 9:46 p.m., they found that McCarthy had been shot.
