In the quiet Camelot neighborhood of Chesapeake, Virginia, the evening of February 15, 2017, was shattered by violence that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Lashorn A. Evans. Police were called to the 3100 block of Gaston Drive shortly after 9 p.m. following reports of an attempted home invasion that had ended in a fatal shooting. Upon arrival, they found Evans, a male from DeKalb County, Georgia, who had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations into the
incident revealed that Evans, along with two other men, 23-year-olds Deonte Harris and Ahkey Riddick, were allegedly attempting to rob the residents of the home. An exchange of gunfire erupted between the intruders and at least one armed individual inside the residence. During the shootout, Evans was fatally wounded. Another person at the scene also sustained a gunshot wound but survived and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
In the aftermath of the deadly encounter, Chesapeake Police identified Harris and Riddick as suspects in connection with the attempted robbery and shooting. Warrants were issued for their arrest on a multitude of charges, including Armed Burglary, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of Armed Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Burglary, Attempted Armed Robbery, Use of a Firearm in an Attempted Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Attempted Armed Robbery, Aggravated Malicious Wounding, and Use of a Firearm in Aggravated Malicious Wounding. Despite these efforts, the case has grown cold, and no arrests have been made. The Chesapeake Police Department continues to seek information from the public, offering a reward for any tips that lead to an arrest in the unsolved case.
