In the late summer of 2011, the life of 18-year-old Daevon Shaquille Miller, a male resident of Norfolk, Virginia, was tragically cut short. On the morning of Saturday, August 20, 2011, Miller was attending a family gathering at the El Patron Cantina Mexican Restaurant in Chesapeake. In an instant, the celebration turned to tragedy when he was fatally shot outside the establishment.
Chesapeake police officers who were in the vicinity on another matter heard the gunshots and responded immediately, finding Miller in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A recent graduate of Lake Taylor High School, Daevon was a young father to a 10-month-old son and was survived by his wife, parents, and numerous siblings who were left to grapple with the sudden and violent loss. In the days following his death, family and friends held a vigil in his honor, pleading with the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of his killer. His funeral was held at the Enoch Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, and he was laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk.

To this day, his death is listed as an unsolved homicide by the Chesapeake Police Department.
