On May 13, 2022, John Cortez McInnis, a 26-year-old resident of Chesapeake, Virginia, was found dead inside an apartment on Wintercress Way. The Chesapeake Police Department responded to a report of bullet holes in the side of an apartment building at around 5:15 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of John Cortez McInnis and another victim, 24-year-old Darren Michael Belardo, inside the apartment.
