In the small town of Macomb, Oklahoma, the life of 48-year-old James Lee was brought to a sudden and violent end on February 1, 2021. What initially may have seemed like a domestic tragedy soon unraveled into a case with conflicting stories and hidden evidence. The man, a male, was fatally shot once in the chest within the confines of his own home.
Investigators soon focused their attention on his wife, 38-year-old Katie Lee.
In the initial stages of the investigation, her accounts of the events leading to her husband's death were inconsistent. At one point, she claimed the firearm discharged accidentally. Later, her narrative shifted to one of self-defense, alleging domestic violence. However, the physical evidence at the scene began to tell a different story, casting doubt on her claims.
The turning point in the investigation came with the discovery of the home's security system. Authorities found that cameras had been moved, and a DVR containing footage of the incident was concealed in a laundry basket. This recovered footage proved to be crucial. While it did show a flash from the gunshot, it reportedly did not support Katie Lee's assertion of a domestic altercation. Investigators stated that the video did not show any aggressive or threatening behavior from James Lee before the shooting.
