In the early morning hours of November 16, 2014, the life of 27-year-old Calvin Jacob Harris, Jr. was tragically cut short in what police believe was a home invasion in Chesapeake, Virginia. A male, known to his loved ones as a giving and kind-hearted person, was fatally shot at a residence on Sunrise Avenue.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the home around 3:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Harris suffering from gunshot wounds.
Medics transported him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses at the scene were unable to provide a clear description of the shooter, telling police that the person who shot Harris was unknown to them.
Born in Norfolk on January 16, 1987, Calvin Harris was a father and worked at Smithfield Packing. His obituary described him as a 'lovable person with a heart of gold.' He was survived by his son, parents, sisters, and a brother.
Despite the efforts of the Chesapeake Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Squad, no arrests were ever made in connection with the murder of Calvin Harris. The case eventually went cold, leaving his family and friends without answers and a community still seeking justice for his untimely death. Authorities have continued to encourage anyone with information to come forward in the hopes of one day solving the case.
