In the spring of 2017, the life of 18-year-old Dedric Shyheim Megginson was cut short in Lynchburg, Virginia. On the evening of May 15th, police responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 800 block of Dearing Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered two young men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Both Megginson and another 18-year-old, Darrell Jermaine Saunders Jr., were rushed to Lynchburg General Hospital. Megginson succumbed to his injuries the following day, May 16, 2017. Saunders was listed in serious but stable condition. Investigators with the Lynchburg Police Department indicated that the shooting was not a random act of violence and was connected to the initial burglary report, suggesting an attempted robbery.
