In the late hours of a Friday night in Arlington, Virginia, a dispute between two men escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving one man dead and another facing a murder charge. On June 16, 2017, in the Nauck neighborhood, 35-year-old Adonis Wright, a Black male from Washington, D.C., was shot. The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. in the 2400 block of South Lowell Street.
Police officers who arrived at the residential scene found Adonis Wright suffering from a gunshot wound.
They administered first aid until medics arrived and transported him to George Washington University Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal. An investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect.
Authorities named 23-year-old Daejon Tyrie Jones of Woodbridge as the individual who had shot Wright during the dispute and then fled the area. The Arlington County Police Department considered Jones to be armed and dangerous and sought the public's help in locating him.
The manhunt for the suspect was brief. On the evening of the following day, June 17, 2017, Daejon Tyrie Jones was taken into custody without incident at a residence in Stafford County, Virginia. The arrest was made with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service and the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Following his apprehension, Jones was charged with murder in connection with the death of Adonis Wright and was held at the Arlington County Detention Facility. Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and stated there was no further threat to the community.
