They had just enjoyed a meal at the Orleans House Restaurant and were making their way along the street when they were suddenly accosted from behind by three unknown men. The assailants pushed Mr. Herse to the ground in a sudden and unexpected act of violence.
As John Herse struggled to his feet, one of the three men tragically shot him.
The attack was swift and brutal, leaving his wife to witness the horrific event. The suspects, described as three Black males, fled the scene immediately after the shooting, disappearing into the night.
