On August 14, 1974, John Raymond Herse, a State Department official, was tragically killed in Arlington, Virginia, in what appeared to be a robbery attempt. That evening, Herse and his wife were walking back to their hotel after dining at the Orleans House Restaurant in Rosslyn when three men approached them from behind.
