On the night of June 11, 1992, Sanford K. “Sam” Swift III, a 31-year-old man, was working as the night shift manager at the Roy Rogers restaurant in the 5200 block of Lee Highway in Arlington, Virginia. After bidding farewell to the last six employees for the evening, he settled into the back office to handle the nightly task of counting the day's receipts or taking inventory, a routine he performed every night. However, this night would tragically deviate from the norm.
