In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 26, 2022, a grim discovery was made in a business parking lot on Columbia Pike in Arlington, Virginia. Inside a parked vehicle, police found the body of 45-year-old Reginald Scott of Washington, D.C. The male victim was unresponsive, and the preliminary investigation suggested he had sustained a gunshot wound. The case was quickly investigated as a homicide by the Arlington County Police Department's Homicide/Robbery Unit.
Evidence found at the scene, along with interviews with witnesses, rapidly led detectives to identify two possible suspects. The investigation progressed quickly, and by the next morning, Sunday, February 27, arrest warrants had been obtained. The two suspects were located at a bus stop at Columbia Pike and South Quincy Street, not far from where Reginald Scott's body had been discovered. They were taken into custody without incident.
The individuals arrested were identified as April Puckett, 46, and James Harris, 48, both of no fixed address. Puckett was charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Harris was charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Following their arrests, both suspects were held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was tasked with conducting an autopsy to formally determine the cause and manner of Scott's death.
