On May 5, 1970, Frank Shipley was tragically killed during a robbery at his Arlington, Virginia, home. Shipley and his wife returned home to discover a burglar inside their house. The intruder demanded access to Shipley's coin collection, and although Shipley complied, he suffered a fatal heart attack during the confrontation. The suspect fled the scene in Shipley’s car, a 1968 Dodge Dart, but was never apprehended.
