In the autumn of 2017, a life was tragically cut short in Henrico, Virginia. Ra'Quan L. Mayo, a 21-year-old man, was found deceased on the evening of November 15th. The grim discovery was made in a car parked at the Oakley Townhomes, where the vehicle's engine was still running and its lights were on. Mayo had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head.
A pistol was found in his lap.
The investigation into the death of the young father-to-be quickly pointed to a violent encounter. Evidence at the scene, including a trail of broken glass and a. 45 caliber shell casing found several parking spaces away from the car, suggested the final moments of Mayo's life were fraught with peril. An unfired cartridge of the same caliber was also recovered a short distance away, painting a chaotic picture of the events that transpired.
Authorities soon focused their investigation on Taiveon Antionio Tucker. It was revealed that the fatal encounter was arranged under the guise of a marijuana deal. An acquaintance of Tucker's later testified that he had driven Tucker to the Oakley Townhomes that night. While waiting in the parking lot, Tucker used the acquaintance's phone to communicate with the individual who was supposed to provide the marijuana. When a car pulled into the lot, Tucker approached it.
From a short distance, the acquaintance witnessed Tucker open and close the passenger door of the vehicle, walk around to the back, and then appear at the driver's side window. A gunshot rang out, accompanied by the sound of shattering glass. Tucker was seen close enough to the driver's window to touch it. Shortly after, he returned to the acquaintance's apartment looking shocked. Two individuals were eventually arrested in connection with the crime.
