In the spring of 2018, the life of 18-year-old Latifah A. Hudnall was tragically cut short in a grocery store parking lot in Richmond, Virginia. A student at Henrico High School, Hudnall was known for her talent with a makeup brush and her aspirations of attending nursing school. She was a cherished friend to many, known for her laughter and joyful spirit.
On the evening of March 31, 2018, police were called to the 4900 block of Government Road shortly after 10:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Hudnall on the ground with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The promising future of the young woman who was nearing her high school graduation was abruptly extinguished.
The investigation into the death of the female teenager quickly led to an arrest. Terrence T. Whitmire, who was 17 years old at the time, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. He was subsequently charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless handling of a firearm, and juvenile in possession of a firearm. Reports indicated that the shooter was a friend of Hudnall's who claimed he believed the gun was not loaded while he was handling it.
