A domestic disturbance in Franklin, Virginia, on a Friday escalated into a fatal incident, resulting in the death of 49-year-old Luciano M. Myrick. The Southampton County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a shooting and dispatched deputies to a residence on General Thomas Highway. Upon arrival, they discovered Luciano Myrick suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders transported Myrick to Southampton Memorial Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries on September 21, 2018. The investigation that followed led to the arrest of a family member in connection with the shooting.
Authorities took the victim's father, 70-year-old McKinley Myrick, into custody. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Following his arrest, McKinley Myrick was held without bond at the Southampton County Jail to await his initial court hearing.
