In the early morning hours of November 18, 2018, a dispute in a Woodbridge, Virginia, home tragically escalated, ending the life of 23-year-old Derrick Antwonne Alston. Alston, a Black male from Washington, D.C., was at a residence on Bronco Way when an argument broke out with an acquaintance.
The heated exchange, which began inside the house, spilled out into the open. It was there that the confrontation turned deadly. Abenezer Daniel Amare, a 24-year-old from Triangle, Virginia, brandished a firearm and shot Alston in the upper body. Emergency services were called to the scene just before 2 a.m. Responders found Alston gravely wounded and transported him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The Prince William County Police swiftly began a homicide investigation. Their inquiries led to the arrest of Abenezer Daniel Amare. He was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder for his role in the fatal shooting. Following his arrest, Amare was held without bond as the legal process against him commenced.
