On a tragic Friday afternoon in Woodbridge, Virginia, a gathering of individuals turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 41-year-old Luis Alonzo Salgado-Rivas. On May 26, 2023, at a residence on Birchdale Avenue, a dispute escalated, leading to a fatal shooting that left two others dead and another man seriously injured. The other deceased victims were identified as Edwin Geovanny Salmeron, 37, and Kevin Josue Vallecillo Mendoza, 23, all residents of Woodbridge.
The Prince William County Police Department responded to reports of a shooting and discovered a chaotic scene. Salmeron was found deceased outside the home, while Salgado-Rivas and two other victims were found inside with gunshot wounds. Salgado-Rivas was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that day. Mendoza passed away from his injuries the following day. A fourth victim, a 21-year-old man, was also shot but was expected to survive.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect in the triple homicide: Donald Antonio Barahona Quinonez, 28 years of age. Authorities determined that the shooting was not a random act and that Barahona Quinonez was an attendee at the gathering. In the aftermath of the shooting, he fled the scene, prompting a manhunt. The Prince William County Police Department secured a warrant for his arrest and offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
The search for Barahona Quinonez extended beyond the United States. In January 2024, he was apprehended in El Salvador by the Special Forces of the National Civil Police. At the time of his arrest, he was reportedly in possession of cocaine, multiple cell phones, and cash. Following his capture, authorities began the process of extraditing him back to Virginia to face charges for the murders. Barahona Quinonez is charged with three counts of murder, one count of aggravated malicious wounding, and multiple firearms offenses. As of late 2025, the legal proceedings following his extradition are pending.
