In the quiet woods of Ivor, Virginia, a day of hunting turned to tragedy, ending the life of 69-year-old William O. 'Billy' Huskey, Jr.. A man defined by his love for the outdoors, his sudden and unexpected death on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, was the result of an accidental shooting that occurred while he was hunting.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Billy was a long-standing member of the Bent Barrel Hunt Club in Ivor and the James River Rod and Gun Club in Charles City.
His passion for these pursuits was a central theme in his life, so much so that he retired in 2011 from a successful career in the home building industry to dedicate more time to them. This deep love for the open spaces was a characteristic that defined him to those who knew him.
The investigation into his death concluded that the shooting was accidental, and as a result, no arrests were made and there were no suspects. The incident was a somber reminder of the inherent risks of hunting. The community was left to remember a man who was not only an outdoorsman but also a graduate of Ferguson High School's class of 1967 and a 1971 graduate of Atlantic Christian College. He was remembered by friends and family as a special person who cared about everyone.
