In the early hours of March 30, 2019, tragedy struck in Norfolk, Virginia, ending the life of 34-year-old Michael M. McGregor. Around 12:50 a.m., dispatchers received a call about a gunshot disturbance behind the Mona Lisa Restaurant and Bar on North Military Highway. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered McGregor suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene before he could be transported to a hospital.
The investigation into McGregor's death quickly led to arrests. Norfolk Police took three men into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspects were identified as 26-year-old Patrick Barnes, 26-year-old Dashawn Bryant, and Gary Drew. All three men were charged with second-degree murder, mob assault, and abduction. Authorities stated that the shooting was believed to be gang-related and that the three arrested individuals were known gang members. Following their arrests, the suspects were held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail.
