In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Norfolk, Virginia, on July 30, 2017, the life of 25-year-old Maxie 'Lil Maxie' Mock was tragically cut short. He was a male who had been a student at Booker T. Washington High School and later earned his GED in 2014. Known for his constant smile and the love he had for his family, especially his five children, his death left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him.
The incident unfolded around 3:30 a.m.
at a house party in the 1500 block of Azalea Garden Road. When police and paramedics arrived at the scene, they discovered Mock had been fatally shot. The violence of that morning also resulted in injuries to five other individuals. In the aftermath, friends and family gathered for a vigil to remember a man who was said to have died in his sister's arms.
The investigation into the shooting led Norfolk detectives to a suspect. On October 6, 2017, 32-year-old Demetrius A. McGregor was arrested in connection with Mock's death. He was taken into custody without incident in Norfolk and subsequently held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond. McGregor was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
