Debbie Ackerman, a 15-year-old Caucasian girl from Galveston, Texas, tragically died on November 15, 1971. She and her best friend, Maria Johnson, also 15, disappeared after leaving a shopping mall in Galveston, intending to hitchhike to Houston. Their bodies were later found in Turner's Bayou, near Texas City, two days after their disappearance. An autopsy revealed that both girls had been shot to death before being tied down and drowned in the Bayou.
